![]() In co-op, the second player can switch between unused party members whenever the team enters a new area or building. ![]() Solo, you have to pause and navigate slightly clunky menus to switch between party members. Switching characters is not intuitive whether you’re playing solo or in co-op. It’s odd that the game is limited to two players when the party can consist of up to four characters, but supposedly 4-player support might be added in the future. The second player can’t use their own profile or earn Achievements – they’ll simply tag along in the primary player’s game, with access to the primary player’s custom characters and random characters who join the party. Playing as a co-op partner is somewhat less satisfying than as the primary player, unfortunately. If only one party member remains, the other player has to sit out until a new character joins the party. That’s important, because teammates can’t revive each other. You might find yourself surrounded by the undead, only for your partner to rush in with guns blazing and save the day. A human partner can be more effective in combat, enabling the party to strategize rather than blindly following the lead player. I’ve also experienced a bug on Xbox One in which my unlocks don’t display properly until I’ve completed my first run of the session.ĭrop-in, drop-out 2-player local co-op does, thankfully, make this ultra-tough journey slightly easier. But after a certain point, I had leveled the perks I wanted and the remaining unlocks didn’t seem all that helpful. It’s good that Death Road has a proper permanent unlocking system. These include leveling up existing perks for stat bonuses, unlocking new perks and traits, and more. Rogue like is a genre that hardly ever hits the mark and this is no exception.Between runs, players can spend Zombo Points (awarded after certain events or found within event stages) on various permanent unlocks. All so you can start from the beginning to go through the same tired formula again and again and again. Even if you get that near perfect run that you have been foaming at the mouth for after wasting countless hours on this garbage, the extremely unfair and unfun final siege will take it all away from you. You will mostly remain weak, always 3 hits from death and the weapons are always boring and not exciting to use. You get this supplies and you may get well equipped, but never will you feel overpowered, a staple of the genre that can make the dull replaying of it all fun. Most of the time you are running around, collecting supplies all the while trying not to die to cheap hordes of zombies. Crazy stuff happens, your best buddy dies, your main character dies, the dog you recruited earlier becomes the only survivor left. ![]() If you fail, it's too bad, try again! But don't worry because dying in this game may be a little bit frustrating but not that much. You have to be 100% committed because you know you have just one shot. Personally this is exactly what i enjoy with the roguelike genre. When your whole party has been killed it is GAME OVER and you have to start over from the beginning. Most of the time you will NOT succeed and you will die. You may recruit dogs, cats or other animals to assist you in your deadly trip. You may encounter these characters during your road trips, they will join your group and try to survive with you. ![]() You can create custom characters for your friends and family members. They get a little bit more stressful during night time (as it should be) but overall the songs are just upbeat and I like them. If you have any sort of sense of humor you will laugh a lot during your journey to the great white north. but the humor in this game is something special. Sure, you are serious about making it to Canada and you don't want to be eaten by zombies. that zombie apocalypse thing, but it's not too dark, gloomy or depressing like all other survival games.
